Hello everyone,
Welcome to my July post. I hope you are enjoying your summer so far. Today, I want to share a little bit about God’s signs and wonders performed in miracles today.
We often talk about God performing small miracles in our lives when we surrender our situations to Him. I just returned from the three-day Catholic Encounter conference I attended in Toledo, Ohio, last week. There were 3,000 people in attendance. I have never experienced anything like this before; it was a little bit of heaven on earth.
I had the special privilege of being on their prayer team, and I was able to pray with close to 60 people throughout the three days. I saw countless people who asked for and received the Holy Spirit into their lives. They felt His refreshing power, warmth, revelation, and pure joy in their hearts and souls as we prayed with them. There were prophetic words as well as many physical healings. It was truly extraordinary. I was overwhelmed at times with wonder.
Brandon Vogt, a Catholic writer for Bishop Robert Barron, says this with respect to miracles: God often allows enough light for those who want to see His ways, and enough darkness for those who want to avoid Him. God doesn’t cause this darkness; He allows it based on our own resistance to opening the door of our hearts to let Him enter.
In other words, God wants people to know and love Him, and He gives people what they need if that’s what they desire—to know Him, love Him, and have Him take center stage in their life’s decisions, events, and circumstances.
However, God doesn’t overwhelm people with obnoxious displays of His power. He leaves room for mystery for those who adamantly want to avoid Him. This isn’t a failing on God’s part; rather, it’s a sign of His respect for human freedom of choice and free will.
Someone recently asked me after the conference, “If God is performing miracles and doing physical healings on people today, why isn’t this reality reported on CNN?” A really great question.
I believe and have read that this reality has not hit mainstream news because God wants us to come to Him and love Him for the right reasons. He doesn’t want to be used as a quick fix for physical healing requests. He wants us to choose to invite Him into our hearts and develop a personal relationship with Him through committed prayer so that we can love Him, ask His advice regularly, follow His teachings, participate in His sacraments, and receive Him often in the Holy Eucharist at Mass.
Physical healing is always a free gift from God that He bestows upon many individuals, though not all of them. He always knows what is best for each person, and if we are not healed physically, it is no indication that He loves us any less than a person He heals. His timing is not our timing.
Is there a physical miracle that you need? Trust that Jesus will supply every need of yours in His name and give good gifts to those who ask, either immediately, at a later time, or in the next life. But you can always be assured that He will give you the graces, hope, strength, and peace to endure your illnesses and even rejoice in them if you ask Him to help you through it.
One final but very important point to ponder: “The degree to which you are able to give up control and surrender your life to Jesus is the degree to which God can work His miracles in your life to totally move your life forward with all the hopes, dreams, and plans He has for you. His ways for you, not our ways, will provide you with the most happiness, peace, and joy.”
If you are resistant to surrender, perhaps ask Jesus in prayer to take your hesitancy away or to increase your desire to surrender more fully than you are now. He will meet you where you are. That’s an honest, truthful prayer. Healing is all about seeking God and acting upon God’s truth revealed to you in your life.
This is heavy, I know, but lots of “food for thought” to chew on this month.
Love you all, MJ xo
