Hello J of Hope Friends,

It’s late June and summer has finally arrived. I want to thank all of those who were able to attend our mass and potluck in May. It was a wonderful turnout.

So, today, as you are heading into the summer months I am hoping that all of you are continuing your journey of faith and healing with our Lord by your side. Today I thought I would touch upon just one “Food for Thought” reflection with you as you decide to continue to walk with God.

It is this: when you really decide to follow our Lord and grow in faith, you will find obstacles along the way. As Matthew Kelly highlights, some of these obstacles are just our own humanity. Think about the disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane on Holy Thursday and they weren’t able to stay awake. That’s what I mean by our humanity.

But as you decide to take your spirituality to a new level, some of these obstacles will be other people in your lives. There are a lot of people in your life who do not want you to change because by changing, you also challenge them subtly to change. Before you challenge them to change by you changing, you challenge them to take a look at their lives, to take another look at their character, their values and how their character and values are expressing themselves in their relationships and in their own lives.

MK says there are a lot of people around who don’t want you to change. Even if you say nothing, just by living a bit differently you are witnessing to them, you are quietly showing them in a very powerful and profound way and in a humble way.

Therefore, be mindful, that sometimes it won’t be easy. There will be both internal and external resistance. When you experience these obstacles and resistance, don’t just rely upon yourselves. Turn to your friends, peers and family who truly care for your best interests. They will provide you with encouragement and inspiration. But most of all, turn to God and experience His Grace. It’s by continuing to turn to God that you will break through those walls of resistance and continue to heal and live the incredible life that God is inviting you to live.

Continue to count your many blessings and ask the Lord to help you to want what you have instead of having what you want. Some of this comes from MK’s Best Lent Ever. That’s it for now folks. Enjoy the sunshine. We will catch up in July. Love MJ xo
