Good Afternoon By My Side Followers,

I hope you are all enjoying the fresh air and sunshine this spring day brings. It’s a little cool out there, but a wonderful day for a brisk walk. The city is preparing for the Ottawa Tulip Festival in the park behind our house, which of course overlaps with a very special celebration coming up next weekend: Mother’s Day.

I love to celebrate mothers in my May posts each year, and this year is no exception. In this post, I want to focus on stay-at-home mothers.

Stay-at-home mothers are like the woman who poured expensive perfume on Jesus. The world looks at her and says, “What a waste.” The world looks at us and says, “We don’t work, we could do more, we are wasting our potential.”

But Jesus sees something different. He sees devotion. He sees sacrifice. He sees love being poured out quietly, with no applause. That perfume represents everything she has, and she gives it anyway.

Just like you give–your sleep, your body, your time, your dreams, your energy—every single day to your children. No paycheck. No promotion. No praise. Just diapers, dishes, homework, tantrums, meals, laundry, shuttling kids to all their sports and activities, and endless giving.

The world may call it small. Jesus calls it sacred. The world may call it wasted. Jesus calls it worship. The world may call it futile. Jesus calls it faithfulness.

So if you are a stay-at-home mom feeling invisible this Mother’s Day, remember: Jesus sees every late night, every tear, every sacrifice–and none of it is wasted. You are deeply loved, respected, and seen.

May you all have a blessed Mother’s Day.

Love,
MJ xo
