Welcome, dear friends, to my By My Side June reflection.
As we celebrate Father’s Day this month, let’s pause to honour the fathers who have loved, sacrificed, and guided us, while holding in prayer those whose experiences of fatherhood carry sorrow, loss, or longing. May the tender presence of Jesus meet each of us wherever we find ourselves on this journey of life.
Father’s Day can stir up many emotions for those who are separated or divorced. Some celebrate loving fathers and grandfathers who have been a source of strength and stability. Others carry the ache of loss, strained relationships, absence, or disappointment. For some, this day highlights the pain of watching children navigate family changes.
Our Catholic faith invites us to look beyond our earthly experiences and rest in the heart of our Heavenly Father. Human fatherhood, while beautiful, is imperfect. God the Father alone loves perfectly, remains faithful always, and never abandons His children.
Jesus continually revealed the Father’s tender love. He showed us a God who seeks the lost, welcomes the wounded, and remains close to those who suffer. If Father’s Day brings joy, thank God for that gift. If it brings sadness, bring that sadness to God the Father, who understands every tear and every longing of your heart.
For separated and divorced Catholics, this day can also be an invitation to pray for the fathers of our children, for healing where there is hurt, and for the grace to entrust our families to God. We may not be able to change another person’s choices, but we can place them into the loving hands of the Father, who never stops working for the good of His children.
On this coming Father’s Day, whether your heart is filled with gratitude or grief, remember this truth: you are deeply loved by your Heavenly Father. His presence remains constant. His mercy never runs out. And His love is the secure home to which we can always return.
Enjoy this Father’s Day as we approach the warmer weather and the coming of the summer season, with all the promise it brings. Thanks for joining me in this post, everyone. See you again soon.
Love,
MJ xo
